The Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP) is a multi-panel, nationally representative data set created by the U.S. Census. SIPP respondents are asked questions about their participation in income maintenance programs, such as welfare and unemployment compensation, their household and family composition, employment and earnings, access to services, including health insurance and child-care, assets, and other topics.
Lauren Willis (Loyola LA) informs me that if you are interested in doing empirical work that may use the SIPP data, you should be aware that the President's FY2007 budget calls for the elimination the SIPP.
