Now that my position on rankings scholarship is part of the public record, I am pleased to announce a simple website where Andrew Morriss (Illinois Law) and I have posted for download:
- 2008 ABA Official Guide dataset in both SPSS and STATA format
- Variable key
- Rudimentary codebook
- Documentation log
- An excerpt from the Official Guide with helpful explanatory text for some of the variables
We are posting this data because we feel that comparative analysis of legal education and law schools needs to be (a) transparent, and (b) subject to replication by responsible researchers. This is our contribution to that goal.
For our broader views in this area, see our op-ed in the June 2007 issue of The American Lawyer and our rankings articles on SSRN.
