Over at the Legal History Blog Al Brophy (now at Alabama; soon to be at UNC) has an interesting post on Steven Levitt and Roland Fryer's new NBER paper on the KKK in the 1920s. Among other issues, Brophy considers why the measure of violence (lynchings) used by Levitt and Fryer may not be the best gauge of the Klan's effect.
